On a brief sorti to a local garden centre, one of the rapidly expanding porfolio of branches held by one very well known brand, I was struck by the lack of originality where the newly stacked Christmas displays were. Having lived near this particular venue for many years, in fact being one of the very first customers when the family run centre opened, it has been a source of endless inspriration and gifts. Every Christmas there was a new theme to be looked over and if the colour scheme suited, then some bits of the arrangement would be purchased and used for the next two or three Christmases. There was always a grand variety of things to look at, with matching or co-ordinating linens and all so beautifully displayed in little ‘cottage window’ style settings.
The nearest thing to those delights now are the giftware and homeware supply sites which encourage browsing and offer a miriad of ideas to excite even the dullest senses.
